I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to the well-known Fr. Z., who hosts the very popular Fr. Z’s Blog (formerly known as “What Does The Prayer Really Say”) for posting one of my trailer-style videos on his website some days back.
I know that it is a bit of a belated thank you, but to be honest, I was a little aghast for a time.
In fact, I think I just wanted to run and hide – classic me-style!
But, once I got over the initial, “oh my gosh, something that I did is not going to be viewed by just five people for once!” shock, I have to admit that I am thankful that he did post it.
A Little (Strange) History
I created the first video, The Forbidden Rite: Part One back in the fall of 2011, and posted it to my original YouTube site which was then under a very different name.
Right from the beginning, the video took off.
Within the first few minutes I was amassing hits.
While it did not go viral, and I did not expect it to, I was getting somewhere between one thousand to two thousand views per month – and it had hit something like 24,000 views in a year and a half by the time I took it down.
Needless to say, it was doing fairly good – and reaching a decent amount of people with its message that the Latin Mass really does matter to some of us – enough that we are willing to do what it takes to see it restored by putting up a dignified “fight.”
When I decided to create a YouTube page that would match this site, I chose to move it there – but to my surprise, when I uploaded the video for the second time, absolutely nothing happened.
And I mean nothing.
I waited for even one single view to come – but it took eons before that ever even happened.
Thinking that maybe something had gone wrong in the uploading (since it had done so well the first time it was up) I tried to upload it again.
I tried one more time, and this time I received the absolute creepiest message from YouTube that I could barely even decipher.
Cryptic YouTube Message: YouTube Calls Latin Mass Enthusiast A Bigot?
Like a flash it came across my page – the black letters hanging upside down at the top against an all white background.
As I struggled to turn my head to read the cryptic sentences, all I caught was the word “bigot” before it flashed quickly away, and then my video showed as uploading.
I sat there for a moment at my desk.
I truly did not know what to think.
I had never in my life seen anything like it.
Why was YouTube flashing me a strange, upside down, cryptic message that contained the word “bigot” and not allowing me enough time to fully catch all that it said?
Did it have something to do with why my video did so well the first time, and now seemed to be hidden into oblivion?
I really had no idea, but decided to just figure that it was what it was meant to be – with or without the strange words that YouTube had flashed before my eyes in a viral nanosecond.
I mean seriously, YouTube would not send me a cryptic message calling me a “bigot” for posting videos of the Latin Mass, would they?
One Last Thank You
He runs a pretty cool site over there – one that I drop into every now and then myself.
Plus, he gives some great advice on subjects that some of you may have had questions on before – and I know that it has helped me a lot in the past.
So hurry over - but don’t mention I sent you.
You know, I am just going to go do what I do best for awhile – and hide.
